The brain is involved in everything we do, and like any other part of the body, it needs to be cared for. As we need to detoxify our lungs, our brain also needs detoxification from negative thoughts and desires. Sometimes, things get out of control, and we feel overwhelmed by these negative thoughts, then we need to enter the psychiatrist’s bay area and seek professional help. There is nothing wrong with consulting a psychiatrist, but this happens in extreme cases. In most cases, one can solve his minor mental problems by talking to his friends and family or developing healthy habits. There are several ways through which you can develop your own brain fitness program.

Some people think that one should not pressure his brain needlessly; it just makes the person tired. In reality, this is false. It would help if you challenged your brain by solving mazes, puzzles, etc. It strengthens your brain muscles, teaches you to look at things from different perspectives, provokes you to try new combinations, and will ultimately prevent your thoughts from being stagnant. It is said that there is a Jewish ritual in which pregnant ladies solve a lot of puzzles and muscles during pregnancy. They believe that it helps strengthen the brain muscles of the baby and will likely increase his intelligence.

A 2015 research report suggests that using all your senses simultaneously may help strengthen your brain. One should try doing activities that simultaneously engage all five senses. For example, cooking involves all five senses; smelling, touching, tasting, sensing, and hearing all at the same time.

Man’s company also plays a very important role in keeping him sane. A good company can relieve one’s anxiety, and bad company can become the reason of his destruction. Nowadays, mental diseases are prevalent because everybody is in the race to achieving material success, and in this process, he becomes lonely. If somebody often feels lonely, it can actually result in psychological decline, as these feelings can negatively impact sleep, blood pressure, contribute to depression and lower one’s well-being. The key to good mental health is to build a strong support system to enable one to stay healthy.

Our parents always stress on eating almonds and nuts to strengthen our memory and this should not come as a surprise that nutrition plays a significant part on our brain health. So, eating the right kind of food and using the right kinds of supplements helps a great deal in developing our brain.

Reading helps a lot of people to get rid of depression. It works as an anti-depressant for many people. As it is said that a reader experiences a new life with a new book, he is open to different viewpoints, and that makes him patient and prevents him from making himself a bigot. So, this does not only cast a positive impact on his life but also in society because it promotes others’ acceptance.

In order to develop one’s brain fully, one needs to see life from all the angles and for that, meditation is very important. It does calm not only your brain but also has a great impact on the body. A healthy body is the reflection of a healthy mind. It is said that “no food will ever hurt you as much as an unhealthy mind”. In 2011, Sara Lazar and her team at Oxford found that mindfulness and meditation can actually change the structure of the brain: “Eight weeks of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was found to increase critical thickness in the hippocampus, which governs learning and in memory, and in certain areas of brain that play roles in emotional regulation.” (Alice G.Walton; Healthcare)

Probably, this is the reason Buddhists give so much importance to meditation. They believe that your mind has such strong energies that you can travel through time and space without even moving a finger, but for that, one should master the art of meditation.

Brain development is all about opting for healthy habits, and habits take time to build. The best approach is to focus on one or two things at a time. Giving your life a complete makeover will prove much more challenging, and the habits you attempt to develop may not stick. Being experimental is good, but when it comes to habits, one should be a little Patient because a good habit always bears fruit at the end of the day.
